Spotlight On: The Skipton Community Hub

Skipton community hub

Skipton, as recently evidenced by being named The Most Polite Place In The Country, is a pretty great place to live.  With its beautiful buildings, rich history, and its ability to attract all kinds of weird and wonderful cultural events, Skipton really does have the lot.

But what makes it really stand out is the sense of community and charity that runs through the town and its people.  Since setting up The Press in September we’ve been amazed at how many charitable ventures local people are involved in and how much good work is being done by a host of unsung heroes across the Craven area.

And it’s because of this great work and determined team spirit – which so often goes unnoticed – that we’re delighted to put the Skipton Press Spotlight on The Skipton Community Hub.

Skipton Community HubWelcome To The Hub Of The Community

Formed in 2013 by a small team of like-minded volunteers, The Hub exists to promote local events, charities and social groups, providing information to both event organisers and potential attendees alike.  They also set up and run fundraising events for other groups and charities within the area, such as Bingo Nights on behalf of Riding For The Disabled and first aid courses on behalf of GEM Compliance, Yorkshire Housing and The Skipton Rotary Club.

As you can see, this lot don’t hang around!

A Crafty Bunch…

The Hub’s headquarters can be found at 47 Swadford St, just off Belmont Bridge.  This pretty shop sells donated goods such as books, clothes and DVDs, much like any other charity shop.  But what sets this one apart from the crowd is that it also sells handmade items created by local arty-crafty types!  The Hub sells these wares on a commission basis, raising money for both itself and for local artisans.

Continuing the crafty theme, The Hub hosts a regular craft group every Thursday between 10am and 4pm, costing only £2.50 per session – with a hot brew or two thrown in for good measure!  What’s more, they even have a small meeting room that can be booked for just £6.50 an hour, making it a perfect spot for businesses on a budget.

Now you can’t say fairer than that…

What makes the great work done by The Skipton Community Hub even more admirable is that it’s done for free.  This committed team give up their time simply to help make Skipton a better place and not at all for their own personal gain.  Any monies raised by their activities are either donated to charity or invested back into the organisation so they can carry on their wonderful work.

Call For Volunteers!

And to help carry on that work The Skipton Community Hub is always on the lookout for more volunteers, so if you’ve got time and enthusiasm to spare then please get in touch.  You can do so by dropping in at the shop or emailing the team at

They would love to hear from you.
