Local charity supporting unpaid carers seeks views on Government’s Carers Action Plan

The Government’s national Carers Action Plan due out in January was published last week. The plan relates to unpaid carers, who provide help and support to their friends, neighbours or relatives without payment, who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness or disability. The Action Plan is in response to the call for an updated national Carers Strategy and the Government has also promised that carers will feature strongly in the planned Green Paper on health and social care.

Local charity Carers’ Resource invites carers, people who are cared for, professional partners, councillors and MPs to one of three discussion sessions to consider the plan and what it might achieve in improving the lives of unpaid carers. Carers’ Resource gives emotional and practical support to 16,000 unpaid carers across the Bradford district, Harrogate and Skipton areas.

The meetings will take place at each Carers’ Resource office on the following days: Monday 18 June 10-11.30am at 15 Park View Court, St Paul’s Road, Shipley, BD18 3DZ; Wednesday 20 June, 1-2.30pm, Ronaldsway House, 36 Brook Street, Skipton, BD23 1PP and Friday 29 June, 12-1.30pm, 11 North Park Road, Harrogate, HG1 5PD. They are open to anyone who has an interest in supporting unpaid carers.
