Fancy creating a pottery masterpiece with your afternoon tea? Floating down the UK’s oldest canal whilst tucking into a lovely Sunday dinner? Or how about browsing an extensive vinyl collection with a pint of local ale?
Of course you do! Which means you’ve come to the right place…
Let’s Do The Twist
Skipton is home to many a brilliant bar, restaurant and café (view our growing list of guides here), where you can eat, drink and be merry to your heart’s content. But a handful of Skipton’s hotspots offer a rather unique twist to the norm, making them not just a place to go to but an experience to remember.
We thought we’d highlight what we think are three of the best. Agree with our choice? Have we made some glaring omissions? Then let us know in the comments section below!
The Skipton Sound Bar
The Skipton Sound Bar has gone down a storm with locals and out-of-towners alike since it opened in May last year. The aptly named Skipton Sound Bar is a vinyl shop… with the added benefit of having an alcohol license! The bar and the boys who run it – Miles, Phil and Paul – are really welcoming, serving an array of craft ales sourced only from local breweries. Often buzzing with a regular schedule of live music, The Sound Bar offers a unique experience for drinkers and music lovers alike.
The Skipton Press interviewed the owners of The Sound Bar earlier this year, which you can read here.
You can find The Sound Bar at 15 Swadford Street, BD23 1RD – a stone’s throw from the town centre.

“This is one place you have just got to visit!! Super atmosphere…. great bar staff and an eclectic mix of music makes it one of the few places that is hard to leave. Can’t wait to return and continue our musical and beverage journey!! No hesitation in recommending. – 5 Stars”

Coffee & Clay
A family-run café and activity centre, Coffee & Clay couples a friendly and relaxed café with an engaging painting studio for people of all ages.
The café, with its hearty homemade food and Fairtrade tea and coffee, is an attraction in itself. However, whilst tucking into their fabulous food, customers can also get creative by making and painting their own pottery. This makes it a lovely place to bring the kids on a rainy day!
Pottery is a great release for creativity, and it keeps the kids busy whilst the grown-ups can enjoy a catch-up with friends – or have a go on the potters wheel themselves!
You can find out more about them at their website here.
Coffee & Clay can be found at number 14 on Skipton’s High St, just off the roundabout
Monday to Saturday – 9.30am – 4.15pm
Sunday – 10.30am – 4.15pm
“Painting ceramics… great for a rainy day activity for any age.Great for other days too. Totally absorbing and great that one can just drop in at any time. No booking required. Nice cafe downstairs with lovely, friendly staff. Will definitely go again.- 5 Stars”
