Skipton Charities Gala Committee is was out in force, to make this year’s Gala Procession and Events one of the best yet!
The Procession started off on Westmoreland Street for judging at 11.45am and then setting off at 1pm and proceeding along Sackville Street, Keighley Road, High Street, Mill Bridge, Water Street and Gargrave Road to Aireville Park.
The Committee has been working extra hard to put the day together due to a shortage of volunteers to help with events. There is great concern about the Gala’s future if volunteers do not come forward to help. The Committee would love for more people to get involved, attend monthly meetings, bring fresh exciting ideas, etc to keep the Gala entertaining for local families for years to come. They are also very grateful to their main sponsor The Rendezvous Hotel for all the support and encouragement and to the many other sponsors who without their help, we couldn’t give donations to the local community groups.
This year saw Rosie Marren crowned as our Rosebud Queen and her attendants were Bethany Brewster and Madison Considine and Pageboy Thomas Spurgeon. She was crowned on the Gala field at approx. 2pm and her other duties will include appearing at Colne Gala and laying a wreath at Skipton’s War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday as well as any other duties required to promote Skipton Charities Gala.
By means of our annual gala, we aim to attract thousands of people, locals and visitors to Skipton to enjoy the colour and fun, both through the town and at Aireville Park, and experience the many delights of the town centre and the entertainment at the park too. There was an afternoon of activity planned, that include the Crowning of the Rosebud Queen, Paw Patrol characters, Xtreme Stunt Team, Eclipse Jazz Band, Diddy Dennis, Wild Bunch Cowboy Shootout, Donkey Rides, some local entertainers and culminate in a firework display, sponsored by Marshall Waddingtons Fun Fair at around 10pm.
Each year local charities are encouraged to apply for funds from Skipton Charities Gala and all profits from the gala are used for that purpose. We hope to conduct many more events and continue to make our town a wonderful place to live.
