Quantum Theatre is bringing its lively brand of comedy, music and magic to the great Dickens favourite, Great Expectations, with a performance at Skipton Town Hall.
The performance takes place on Saturday, July 22 at 2.30pm and will make use of the Town Hall’s new raked seating.
Packed full of action, intrigue and a vast array of Dickens’ most popular and infamous characters, this lively new version delivers high drama, low comedy and grimy double-dealing in a fun show for all the family.
Danielle Daglan, Programming & Venue Development Manager at Craven District Council, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Quantum Theatre to Skipton – this promises to be a thrilling production of what is one of the greatest stories ever told.
“It’s perfect for fans of Dickens and it’s also a great way to introduce a younger audience to the power of his work.”
The classic story tells the tale of a terrifying encounter with an escaped convict on the wild Kent marshes; a summons to meet the bitter, decaying Miss Havisham and her beautiful, cold-hearted ward Estella; and the sudden generosity of a mysterious benefactor.
This series of events changes the orphaned Pip’s life forever, and he eagerly abandons his humble origins to begin a new life as a gentleman in London… But as Pip leaves his old world behind will he ever discover the real story behind his great expectations?
Adapted and directed by Michael Whitmore, this new production delivers a fun, pacey and accessible version of the Dickens original whilst retaining all the drama and fascination of this enduring classic.
Quantum Theatre was founded in 1988 as a direct response to the lack of educational drama available to schools on the subject of numeracy and science. Quantum’s characteristic style combines educational elements with pacey, humorous musical theatre.
