Skipton has a long and proud history surrounding its market. In fact, Skipton Market has won awards for being a one of the best general markets in the country! So when we heard about a new market in town, being organised by some of Skipton Markets finest, we wanted to find out more…
Skipton Farmers and Craft Market – 4th June
On the first Sunday of every month, from 10am to 3.30pm at Canal Basin just off Bridge St Car Park (BD23 1LH) there is a brand new and exciting Farmers and Craft Market, which offers some fantastic and unique stalls!
The market is the brainchild of Richard and Susan Feather, who run the popular market stall “Feathers Funky Eggs.” We caught up with Richard, who told us about where their drive to bring back Skipton Farmers Market came from, he said “We asked the question, why haven’t we got the best Farmers Market when we have got a best General Market …. and after consulting the Town Council and working with them, they asked if we would like to get the Farmers Market back up and running.”
Not one to shy away from hard work, Richard explained “Because we like a challenge and enjoy Market life we decided to give it ago! We heard the community asking for it to come back. Hopefully giving the community and visitors something else to look forward to and hope they will all come and support the Farmers market and help it grow from strength to strength.”
“We have lots of new stalls lined up for June and a few new ones coming along July and September which will mean all pitches are now full for the time being!”
The first market took place on 7th May, and was a great success! With the next falling on the same day as the ever popular Car Show, it looks like it’ll be an even bigger event, and we urge many of you to go down and engage in this fantastic monthly market!
What to expect
From creatively crafted crayons to jars of joys (cakes in a jar!) there are lots to be excited about. In the run-up to next month’s market, which is on 4th June (put it in your diary,) we’ve been in touch with some of the fantastic traders, to give you an idea of how eclectic the offerings will be, as well as some of the lovely people behind the stalls!
Here are just four of the stalls/stallholders which will be at the market, keep an eye on The Skipton Press’ Facebook page, for more articles, which will introduce you to more of the great people who will be in attendance!
Hannah’s Jars of Joy
Hannah’s Jars of Joy is a stall all about delicious baking, with a twist. She sells a variety of creative bakes, all of which are served in a jar! She said:
“Hi, I’m Hannah. I work full time as a manager but have always loved baking in my spare time! Two months ago I took the leap and started selling cake jars – yummy homemade sponge in flavours such as vanilla, lemon, chocolate and carrot, with layers of buttercream and sauce depending on the flavour!”
Hannahs Favourite Product:
“Cherry Bakewell cake jars. I don’t like cherry Bakewell personally but I always get fantastic reviews and love the finish on them!”
What people say about Hannah:
“They definitely live up to their name. Jars of joy. They should be called jars of pure joy.
I bought a peanut butter one and a cream egg one. The peanut butter one was eaten as soon as I got home. Great cake to frosting, peanut butter ratio. The sponge was so moist. Such a delicious treat. Highly recommend.” – Facebook – 5 Stars

They got them today and absolutely love them! They are a really clever idea, especially if your little ones are struggling with colours and letters! G for green, R for red! Will definately be ordering more for all my little people connections! Thanks again Sophie” – Facebook – 5 Stars
